On a Roll

After a 10-10 start to the season the Marlins have won three straight games to take sole possession of second place in the South division. The Marlins finally finished the game last night with the Florence RedWolves. Our staff worked really hard on the field to make sure the playing surface was playable in order to finish the game.

The game was really important to the Marlins as the RedWolves were three games ahead going into last night's game. In front of an amazing crowd of 1336, the Marlins were able to tie it up in the bottom of the 6th before the skies opened up. As the team and staff rolled out the tarp, it ripped completely in half. One of the games we absolutely needed...and the tarp rips in half. Doesn't if always work like that? After probably 45 minutes of heavy rainfall ( and no tarp), the game looked lost. I have to admit, I thought we had no chance to finish the game. Luckily, the field has a state of the art drainage system. Within an hour most of the water had been drained. If the game was suspended, the game would have ended in a tie and not continued. As the first half comes to a close, a tie wouldn't have done us any good, especially with Florence up three games with five to play. In essence, we needed to finish that game and we needed a victory. And that's what happened.

I want to thank the Carteret County Chamber of Commerce for everything that they have done for us the past few months. As we received additional support last night from many chamber members, I wish it wouldn't have rained. It was a sweet win and I wish all were there to witness it.

What about the U.S. soccer and tennis matches yesterday? What a day in sports. Just thought I would throw that in there.
